Susan Comninos and the Jewish Poets Collective are planning two readings for Jewish American Heritage Month (May). One reading is titled “Leaving the Neighborhood: Immigration, Exile and the Search for Home.” We see this as a rather broad idea that can include topics such as conversion, making Aliyah, cross-cultural relationships, disagreements within relationships, identity, love, alienation, and even works in translation. The other reading is titled, “The Only One or One of Many” and is intended to explore experiences of living as an isolated Jew, for example, growing up as the only Jewish child in school, or experiences living among many other Jews. Both of these circumstances encompass any number of ways of experiencing being Jewish and are a rich source for poetry. Each reading will be an hour, and will be virtual. If you’re interested in sharing your work for one of these readings, email me at jewishpoetscoll@gmail.com by April 15.
