Before I share what’s coming up in October, I want to include the recording from Baruch November’s September 18 reading, which was wonderful. If you were unable to attend, you can watch it here. Baruch read from his book, The Broken Heart Is The Master Key (Ben Yehuda Press, 2025), which you can purchase on the JPC affiliate page on Bookshop.org. I enjoyed Baruch’s thoughtful and enlightening conversation as well as his wonderful poetry.

The Jewish Poets Collective has three events on the calendar for October. The first is a poetry reading featuring Maxim Shrayer on Sunday, October 19 at 7pm ET. Register to attend here.
Maxim will be reading from his recently released book, Zion Square (Ben Yehuda Press, 2025) which can be purchased on the JPC affiliate page.

Maxim is a Russian-American poet, editor, and translator. He is a professor of Russian, English, and Jewish Studies at Boston College. Among his many accomplishments, Maxim is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship (2012) and won a National Jewish Book Award for his Anthology of Jewish-Russian Literature (2007).

The second event is the Rosh Chodesh Open Mic event featuring poet Donna Spruijt Metz and is scheduled for Thursday, October 23 at 7pm ET (1st of Cheshvan)
Since Rosh Chodesh can be a meaningful time for women, each event will begin with a woman poet reading one poem before the event is open to all. Each event is an hour long and can be open to a maximum of ten poets. These monthly open mics will be a great opportunity for poets to share their work!
Register here to attend.

Finally, the second issue of The Jewish Poets Collective Journal will be released on October 12! I can’t wait to share with everyone another great issue!
